The police watchdog has been informed after a man was found dead at a Salvation Army headquarters following contact with officers.

Emergency services were called to the building in Tunbridge Wells this morning following the discovery.

A cordon was put in place at the scene in Bayhall Road, and police and paramedics were called.

It's now been revealed that the man had prior contact with the police.

The case has therefore been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC).

A Salvation Army spokesperson said: “We are deeply saddened and offer our prayers and condolences to the family and friends of a man who has passed away outside our church in Bayhall Road.

“We will support the police in their investigations in any way we can. We cannot comment further while a police investigation is ongoing.”
