Suspected drink driver, 23, arrested in Quarry Hill Road, Tonbridge, after knocking over bus stop in Camden Road, Tunbridge Wells

A suspected drink driver has been arrested after a car mounted the pavement and smashed into a bus stop before fleeing.

Police received a number of calls at about 10pm on Saturday concerning a car being driven erratically in the Camden Road area of Tunbridge Wells.

It was claimed a black Renault Megane had driven onto the kerb and knocked over a bus stop and a bollard, while two parked vehicles were also reportedly damaged.

No one was injured, but the car then drove off.

Officers found the car heading in the direction of Tonbridge, but the driver failed to stop when requested to do so.

At around 10.15pm officers brought it to a controlled stop in the Quarry Hill Road area of Tonbridge.

A 23-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of driving whilst unfit through alcohol or drugs, dangerous driving, driving without insurance and otherwise than in accordance with a licence and causing criminal damage.

The suspect remains in police custody.
