A thief stole a bottle of vodka from a supermarket, before pulling a knife on a shopper who tried to chase after him.

Police say a man entered the Sainsbury's Local store in St Johns Road, Tunbridge Wells, at around 4.30pm on Monday and picked up the bottle from a display behind the checkouts.

The suspect is said to have grappled with a member of staff when challenged, before fleeing the store with the stolen alcohol.

A member of public is reported to have given chase but then stopped after the suspect allegedly produced a weapon, possibly a knife.

As part of the investigation Kent Police has released a CCTV image of a man they would like to speak to, who was carrying a black bag which had a white Adidas logo.
