Charities across Kent have benefited from a donation from the Kent Police property fund.

The fund comes from the sale of items that have been seized during police operations and unclaimed property at auction.

Charities can submit a request for funding which are then assessed by police offers before funds are distributed.

The latest charities in west Kent to receive donations are:

• Mental Health Resource in Tunbridge Wells -The charity provides support for people who are suffering mental ill health and the money will aim to help fund safeguarding systems.
• Moncktons Detachment, Kent Army Cadet Force in Maidstone - A groupof 23 cadets aged between 13-18 years old who parade twice weekly. The donation from Kent Police property fund will help buy sports equipment for the group.
• Maidstone and Medway Cruse Bereavement Care, Marsham Street -This charity provides support for bereaved adults and children. The money will help upgrade IT equipment.
• Aylesford Royals under 13’s football team -The money will help pay for kits and equipment to help them compete in the Maidstone Express Cabs League.
• Medway Rugby Football Club development squad -The money will help fund kit and equipment for the team, many of whom come from low income or difficult backgrounds and cannot afford personal items such as gum shields.
• West Kent Mediation, Swanley - The charity provides a free and independent mediation services to residents. The money will fund training awareness days.
• Sherwood Cricket Club -The club is looking to fund a roll-on nets facility for their 90 members, who are boys and girls aged between 6 – 17 years-old from multiple backgrounds and abilities.

West Kent divisional commander, chief superintendent Steve Corbishley, said: "There are so many charities across west Kent that contribute so much to society by helping and supporting people who are in need.

"It is quite humbling to see the effort that is put in – often on a voluntary basis – and we are only too happy to help support these amazing people and their organisations with funds that we have collected through the sale of unclaimed property."
