Tunbridge Wells: Man arrested after suspicious items found in flat during fire in Brokes Way

A 55-year-old Tunbridge Wells man has been arrested after firefighters discovered suspicious items in his flat while dealing with a blaze at a nearby home.

The items, including computers and mobile phones, were found after crews were called to Brokes Way at around before 6pm last night after a fire took hold in the kitchen of a property.

Nearby residents were evacuated while two fire engines brought the flames under control.

The resident of the home affected suffered smoke inhalation and cuts to his hand. He was given oxygen at the scene.

The fire is believed to have been caused by a deep fat fryer.

Police and forensic officers are continuing to gather evidence at the property today.

The arrested man remains in custody.
