Tunbridge Wells: Man arrested after St John's Road incident released without charge

A man who was arrested by armed police in Tunbridge Wells has been released without charge.

Officers were called to a disturbance in St John's Road, near the junction with Beltring Road in Southborough, in October.

Members of the public reported seeing up to 12 members of the force "kitted out in gear" in Yew Tree Road car park.

Sniffer dogs were also spotted in the area. A Kent Police spokesman said armed officers were deployed as part of the response to the initial call, based on information received at the time.

Officers made inquiries in the local area, including around Barnetts Close, which was sealed off for a short period.

No-one was seriously hurt in the incident but a man suffered a minor cut to his hand. No shots were fired by the armed response unit.

One member of the public said nine or 10 police cars were stationed in Southborough library parking area during the incident.

A 26-year-old man from Tunbridge Wells was arrested on suspicion of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

He was bailed pending further inquiries until today, but has now been released without charge.
