The incident happened in the car park at Morrisons in Tunbridge Wells

A 33-year-old man has appeared before a court charged with the rape of a woman in a multi-storey car park.

Stephen Allen Gale, of no fixed home, was remanded in custody until February 19 by magistrates in Sevenoaks on Tuesday.

The alleged rape follows an investigation into an incident in Morrisons supermarket car park in Vale Road, Tunbridge Wells, close to the town’s railway station.

Police have appealed to passengers on the 8.45pm service from Charing Cross which arrived at Tunbridge Wells at 9.37pm last Thursday to help their inquiries.

Detectives are particularly interested in talking to anyone on board the train between High Brooms and Tunbridge Wells or commuters using the car park between 9.15pm and 10pm.
