Man in serious condition after being punched by stranger in Southborough

A man was left seriously injured after being punched in the street by a stranger as he walked with his wife.

The force of the blow knocked the victim to the floor, causing him to hit his head on the pavement.

He was later taken to hospital for treatment to a serious head injury.

The victim, aged in his 50s, was targeted as he walked along London Road, near its junction with Holden Road, in Southborough at around 6.40pm on Sunday.

The suspect, who was with a woman, ran off towards Holden Road following the attack.

He was white, with dark brown hair, 5ft 7, aged 17 to 18 and wearing a dark grey tracksuit top and dark bottoms.

The woman with him was white, 5ft and carrying a bunch of flowers that contained a small teddy bear.

An 18-year-old man from Tunbridge Wells was arrested on suspicion of assault yesterday, and later released under investigation.
