Crash on A21 between Robertsbridge and John's Cross

A Tunbridge Wells pensioner has been seriously injured in a four-car pile-up.

The woman, aged 77, was driving a BMW 320 when she was involved in the collision, on the A21 between Robertsbridge and John's Cross in Sussex at 4.50pm yesterday.

She was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton for treatment.

The teen was arrested yesterday.

Police are now appealing for witnesses to the crash, as they investigate what happened.

The pensioner's car had collided with a Vauxhall Corsa, being driven by a 20-year-old man from Paddock Wood, travelling in the opposite direction. He sufferd a suspected broken wrist, cuts and bruising.

Also involved was a Vauxhall Combo van, which was following the BMW south-bound. Its driver, a 49-year-old man from and front seat passenger, a 57-year-old man, both from St Leonards-on-Sea, suffered slight injuries.

The fourth vehicle, a Ford Fiesta travelling north, damaged a wheel but its driver, a 23-year-old man from Robertsbridge, escaped injury.

The road was closed for more than three hours while oil and debris was cleared from the scene by Highways Authority engineers.
