Police were called after the route was blocked.

A police spokesman said this afternoon: "Ambulance crews are also assessing for injuries at the scene."

Highways England said the route was shut between the B2160 Kipping's Cross and the A262 at Lamberhurst.

Officials urged motorists to allow extra time for their journeys while the closure remained in place.

"We are deploying resources to assist with traffic management," a National Highways spokesman said.

"As a result of the collision there is an oil spillage that requires treatment before the road can reopen. Recovery is en-route to remove the vehicles.

"Road users are being diverted local routes, so if this closure impacts on your planned route, please allow extra journey time."

National Highways announced at around 8.30pm the road had re-opened in both directions and there were no significant delays.
