"This was a vicious and unprovoked assault on a young man who had spent an evening celebrating a friend’s birthday" - DC Ben Clatworthy

He had short spikey ginger hair and was wearing a blue polo t-shirt.

Detective Constable Ben Clatworthy said: "This was a vicious and unprovoked assault on a young man who had spent an evening celebrating a friend’s birthday.

"He has now had to have metal plates inserted into his jaw and has been unable to return to work, such are the extent of his injuries.

"This occurred at a time when many people would have been making their way home from late night bars in the town and it is likely that a number of people would have witnessed this attack.

"It is believed that a group of females may have tried to help the victim before one of them was also pushed over."
