Police name victim of flat blaze

A MAN who died when a fire broke out in his flat at Beltring Road, Tunbridge Wells, has been named as William Carton who was aged 70.

An inquest into Mr Carton's death was opened and adjourned on Monday.

Emergency services were called shortly before 10am last Friday to the blaze in the upstairs flat of a house. Mr Carton was the only occupant of the flat and no-one else was injured.

The cause is not yet known but police are not treating the fire as suspicious.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service sent four appliances to the scene and houses either side of the flat were evacuated while crew tackled the blaze.

The fire was brought under control by 10.30am. Beltring Road and Whitefield Road were closed while emergency services attended the incident.
