A fire that broke out in a busy shopping centre in Kent over the weekend is being treated as suspicious.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service were called to the Royal Victoria Place shopping centre, in Tunbridge Wells, on Saturday at 3.20pm and the complex was completely evacuated.

Firefighters tackled a small fire and left the scene at 5pm when shoppers were allowed back inside the building.

A sprinkler system inside the room activated immediately which also prevented the fire from spreading any further.

Kent Police have today confirmed that the fire is being treated as suspicious and an investigation is underway.
