Voters go to the polls in Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells

Voters go to the polls today in two parts of Kent for council elections.

The results will indicate how the parties are faring in what is the first test of public opinion since last year's general election.

The two councils involved are Maidstone Borough Council, where 18 seats are being contested, and Tunbridge Wells District Council, where 16 wards are being fought for.

Voters go to the polls in parts of Kent today.

In both areas, only a third of the wards are up for grabs, meaning it could be difficult to make concrete conclusions about how the parties stand.

In Maidstone, the Liberal Democrats are hoping to retain control of the council while in Tunbridge Wells the Conservatives will be hoping that they do enough to hold on to power In what is traditionally seen as a stronghold for the party.

Polling stations will open at 7am and close at 10pm as with previous elections.

If you are still queueing outside at 10pm, then you will still be able to vote.

KentOnline will have all the results as they come in on Friday when the count will be held, together with analysis and reaction.
