KENT’S Robert Key has been named as the Frizzell PCA performance of the month award winner for May in a ceremony at Edgbaston.

The deposed England batsman was selected after scoring centuries in both innings in the county’s draw with Surrey last month.

Key clinched the award for his second innings 189 at Tunbridge Wells that led to a record third-wicket partnership of 323 in 73 overs alongside South African Martin van Jaarsveld – breaking a Kent third-wicket record which had stood for 106 years in the process.

Quickest to 1,000 runs last season, Key has reached 751 to date this term at a healthy average of 62.

He received £750 from championship sponsors Frizzell for claiming the award chosen by PCA representative and ex-England bowler Gladstone Small and England’s chairman of selectors David Graveney.
