Two cars crash in Matfield

A driver is in hospital with serious head injuries after his vehicle veered into a verge before crashing into an oncoming car.

It happened on the B2160 Maidstone Road in Matfield just after 9.30pm last night.

Firefighters also had to put out a small fire under the bonnet of one of the vehicles.

Kent Police has launched a witness appeal and said the cars involved were a grey Ford Mondeo and a black BMW 750.

Investigating officer DC Di Walker from the Kent Police Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: "The Mondeo was travelling along the B2160 towards Paddock Wood when, for unknown reasons, it veered onto the nearside verge and then drove back onto the carriageway where it was in collision with the BMW travelling in the opposite direction."

The driver of the Mondeo was taken to a London hospital suffering from serious head injuries. The air ambulance was also called to respond.

DC Walker added: "We are appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision or saw the two vehicles in the moments leading up to it to contact us.

‘We would also like to hear from anyone with dash cam footage of the incident."

Three people in total were cared for by paramedics. Emergency services left the scene around 11pm.
