A road has been closed to allow engineers to fix a gas escape.

A229 Staplehurst Road in Marden was shut just after 7.30am this morning and could remain inaccessible until Tuesday, January 22.

Crews from SGN are at work to repair the gas leak.

The road will be closed until Tuesday, January 22

Drivers have been told to expect delays in and around the road near the B2079 Maidstone Road junction.

A spokesman for SGN said: "All being well, we hope to complete our repair by the end of tomorrow (January 17).

"We will then move on to restoring the road surface at which point we can reopen the road under temporary two-way traffic lights.

"We understand this is major route and so will be working hard through the night to complete our repairs as soon as possible."

SGN also confirmed that no loss of supplies had occurred due to the work and no one in the area has been evacuated.
