Almost 200 homes and businesses were left without electricity after a lorry overturned and ploughed into power lines in Marden this afternoon.

Police, two fire engines and two ambulances attended the scene in Maidstone Road, which links the village with Milebush.

No injuries have been reported but part of the carriageway has collapsed and officers are directing traffic.

The road is closed between Battle Lane and Underlyn Lane. It is not expected to reopen until around 8pm.

At least 196 homes and businesses were without electricity, but engineers from UK Power Networks have since restored power.

A UK Power Networks spokesman said: "There was a power cut in this area earlier.

"Our engineers worked hard to fix it and power should now be back on.

"We are sorry for any trouble this may have caused."
