A one-year-old boy remains in a serious condition after a serious crash in Paddock Wood.

The baby was in a Renault Laguna when it collided with another vehicle in Badsell Road, Paddock Wood, last Thursday.

He was left fighting for his life but is condition has now been described as serious but stable.

The youngster was taken to Kings College Hospital, in London, with his mother, who is in her 40s and was a passenger.

The driver, a 30-year-old man, was also taken to the same hospital. He was later arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and drink-driving.

The motorist has been released on bail until Monday, June 23, pending further inquiries.

All three occupants are from Tonbridge.

Kent Police has launched an investigating into the smash and asked witnesses to come forward.

It is understood the Renault collided with a Mercedes, which was travelling in the opposite direction, at about 6.30pm. The woman driving the Mercedes, who is in her 50s, was taken to Tunbridge Wells Hospital in Pembury with minor injuries.

The four adult casualties have been discharged but the one-year-old remains in a serious but stable condition.

The South East Coast Ambulance Service sent three ambulances and two cars to the scene, with two more cars sent by the Kent, Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance.

They were joined by firefighters who were at the scene for about two hours, with crews helping to free the two women.

The road was closed until 11.20pm while the vehicles were recovered.
