Staff at a school were shocked after footage emerged of a BMX rider on the roof of one of their teaching blocks.

The video, which has been uploaded to hosting website Vimeo by South Coast BMX, shows the cyclist on the roof of a building at Mascalls Academy.

The man is seen smashing tiles at the Paddock Wood school as his bike lands on them, and laughing as he hits the ground.

The damage, caused in April, was originally thought to be an attempted break-in, and cost the Maidstone Road academy around £800 to repair.

It was an unexplained incident until the school was alerted to the footage.

The perpetrators are not known to Mascalls, and other shots in the video show them in more urban areas.

Richard Taylor, a spokesman for the Leigh Academies Trust, said: “He is not a former student, and through our own mini investigation we can’t find any link to the school.

“We reported it to police when we saw the footage, and hope it helps them to catch the person responsible.”

Kent Police confirmed they had received a report of criminal damage at the school, and inquiries are ongoing.
