Staplehurst woman killed by train named as Sharon Burnham of Butcher Close after inquest opens at Archbishop's Palace in Maidstone

A woman killed when she was struck by a train at Staplehurst station has been named.

Sharon Burnham, of Butcher Close, Staplehurst, died from multiple injuries after being hit.

The 47-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene on Wednesday, August 6.

Ms Burnham was hit by a train not in service and with no passengers on board.

It was on its way to London, ahead of the evening peak, at about 1.35pm.

An inquest has now been opened and adjourned at the Archbishop's Palace in Maidstone.

Her death is not being treated as suspicious, British Transport Police said.

Speaking at the time, a Southeastern spokesman said: "We express our sympathy to the family of the individual involved.

"The incident was very distressing for the driver and we made sure that he received the care he needed as quickly as possible."
