There’s a new Indian restaurant in town.

The Jumeira opened at 3 High Street, Cranbrook, this Tuesday, May 9, in the premises formerly occupied by another Indian restaurant, the Mumtaz Mahal.

It is owned by Tariq Ahmed. His brother Jamil also works there and he said: ”It’s so far, so good.

“Our opening night was exceptionally busy – we were fully booked. And we are very busy all week.”

“I think everyone wants to come and try us out!”

Mr Ahmed was confident that their customers would enjoy their visit. He said: “We have the experience. We opened the Jumeira at The Parade in Staplehurst 10 years ago, and then a Jumeira take-away in Wadhurst more than four years go.”

The Cranbrook restaurant opens for lunch between noon and 2pm daily and for dinner from 5pm till 10.30 (11pm on Friday and Saturday) and also offers a take-away service.

Its predecessor, the Mumtaz Mahal, closed at the start of the Covid pandemic and never fully re-opened.

The Jumeria company also operates the Bleu Steak House in Staplehurst.
