Dirty Dancing has become the biggest touring show in the history of the Marlowe Theatre.

More than 26,000 people will have seen the musical when it ends its three-week run at the Canterbury venue on Saturday, April 20 - a staggering 92% of the possible capacity.

Theatre director Mark Everett said: “This has been a fantastic success for us and something we couldn’t have done in the old building – we have brought the West End to Canterbury.

“What’s particularly pleasing is that 45% of the audience have never attended a show at The Marlowe and will be enjoying our superb theatre for the very first time.”

The millionth ticket is expected to be sold tomorrow (Wednesday), and to mark the special occasion, everyone who buys one tomorrow will be entered into a prize draw to win a luxury VIP experience.

Karl Sydow, the show’s producer, said: “We are delighted that we are about to sell our millionth ticket for the tour after only 18 months on the road!”

Written by Eleanor Bergstein, who scripted the successful 1987 movie, Dirty Dancing, The Classic Story On Stage features all the much-loved characters, songs and original dialogue from the iconic film, with extra scenes added in.
