Well, this is another fine mesh to get into!

Turner Contemporary’s Sunday event for families this weekend, What a Mesh, gives visitors a chance to get entangled in creativity for the afternoon.

The drop-in session, on Sunday, February 26, is themed to link with the Margate gallery’s latest exhibition, Entangled: Threads and Making, and aims to provide a calming and creative atmosphere where you can use techniques of weaving and tapestry to create your own masterpiece, using recycled materials.

Free for adults, under-threes and local residents, it costs £3.50 for children and runs from 1pm to 4pm. Tickets available from the shop on the day.

Forty female artists took a different look at textiles, tapestry and jewellery for Entangled: Threads and Making, which explores the different mediums from the early 20th century to the present day.

Their work looks at expanding the possibilities of knitting and embroidery, using everything from clothing and hair to bird quills.

Curated by writer and critic Karen Wright, with Turner Contemporary, it came about through her work for the Independent’s In the Studio column, when she watched artists first hand.
Running simultaneously is another exhibition of JMW Turner’s works.

A selection of etchings and mezzotints, taken from Turner’s Liber Studiorum, a series of 70 landscape engravings published in 14 parts between 1807 and 1819, are on show.

Both exhibitions run until Sunday, May 7, between Tuesdays and Sundays, 10am to 5pm and are free. For details go to turnercontemporary.org
