Flamenco, acoustic, classical, jazz and full on blues will rock a festival in the honour of the guitar.

The inaugural Sandwich Guitar Festival from Thursday, October 2 to Sunday, October 5 will also feature a blues beginners’ workshop, a performance by solo acoustic wizard Preston Reed and a master class by classical guitarist Gary Ryan.

Guitarists and audiences can sign the guitar for a donation

It is the brainchild of Laura and Bob Drury.

Bob said: “We plan to run the festival every year and have lots of ideas as to how it might grow into a major event in the Sandwich calendar.

“However, we’ve got to get the project out of the starting blocks and have based this first year in just one venue in the town.”

That is St Mary’s Arts Centre in Strand Street, which is known for its excellent acoustics.

There will be concerts each night during the festival at 7.30pm as well as daytime performances on Saturday and Sunday. Ticket prices vary.
