Who doesn’t like to see behind a secret panel?

Hever Castle will be opening some of the doors not usually open to the public as part of a new tour when it opens for its spring season.

Up to 15 people at a time can take part in the Hidden Hever tour where they will get to see William Waldorf Astor’s study – complete with its secret panel.

They can also see the boys’ bedrooms created by William Waldorf Astor and Lord Astor’s bathroom which is accessed via the secret panel, and Lady Irene Astor’s very pink bathroom.

The striking pink bathroom was designed by Godfrey Bonsack and features gold fleurs de lis on pink raw silk wall coverings, a pink bath and gold swans on the taps and lights.

This very pink bathroom is part of a new hidden tour being launched at Hever Castle and Gardens

Guests will be treated to stories and anecdotes relating to the rooms and learn more about the social history of the castle.

The tour, which is for adults only as it is more in-depth, is an hour and a half starting at 10am. Following their tour the group are welcome to stay in the gardens until closing.

It will cost £45 each. For details visit hevercastle.co.uk/groups, email groups@hevercastle.co.uk or call 01732 861701.

* The castle’s five star Bed and Breakfast won Gold in the Boutique Accommodation of the Year category in the Beautiful South Awards, with the Milk House in Sissinghurst highly commended.

The Gold award means Hever can enter the Visit England Awards for Excellence in 2018.
