From history centuries-old history to more modern pastimes, the Tonbridge and Malling area of Kent has a lot to tempt you away from polling day woes on Thursday.

You know you've really got away from it all these days when you can't use your mobile, and if there's one place it would seem out of place to check your phone for election news, it's at a neolithic burial ground.

Kit's Coty off Blue Bell Hill is the perfect place for a countryside walk to, where you can see the huge stones which were moved between 2500 and 1700BC and were ancient burial tombs.

If you're feeling really adventurous, you can try a walk from the Bluebell Hill picnic area, to Kit's Coty. For details visit http://www.walkingbritain.co.uk/walks/walks/walk_b/2104/

From there, a stop at a tearoom will surely be in order, and another place where the election will not be on everyone's lips is peaceful Aylesford Priory, a tranquil setting where you can enjoy the surroundings and relax. There are gardens and a shop and recently opened tearoom.

More than 200,000 pilgrims a year make their way to Aylesford, but you don't need to be making a pilgrimage to enjoy the site. It's open 365 days a year, and while there you can visit the pottery, which has two master potters, Billy Byles and Alan Parris, who make the distinctive pots, plates and other crockery on site.

It's open 10am to 5pm each day and there is no admission charge, although donations are welcomed. For more details visit http://www.thefriars.org.uk/visit/visit.html

Poult Wood golf club

For some more up to date fun, Poult Wood Gold Club near Tonbridge is taking part in National Golf Month throughout May, giving golfers of all abilities and ages and those looking to get into the game a chance to try the facilities on offer.

There are a number of offers during the month as well as golf clinics run by teaching professionals.

Set in picturesque woodland, three miles north of Tonbridge, there's also a restaurant and bar for dinner and a drink or two, and 12-bay driving range to keep you occupied into the evening. For details visit www.poultwoodgolf.co.uk
