Christmas lights switch-on in Oxford Street, London

The Christmas lights in iconic Oxford Street in London this year will use energy saving LED technology.

It will be the 60th year the lights in the shopping street have been turned on, with the switch-on happening on Thursday, November 21.

Visitors in their thousands are expected to be the first to snap and share the new Christmas lighting experience, which will feature 27 LED light curtains draped the length of the street, made up of 220,000 sparkling lights.

They feature the latest in progressive LED technology giving energy savings of up to 90% compared to conventional lighting.

Oxford Street is Europe’s longest shopping street, at 1.5 miles of retailers.

The evening on Thursday, November 21 will feature offers and events from brands, as well as intimate in-store gigs. There will also be live in-store performances, with Capital XTRA.
