There is a hidden gem nestled in the Kentish High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It is the Walled Nursery, run by husband and wife Monty and Emma Davies.

The couple , who are always on hand to offer advice and share their knowledge of

local topography.

The nursery offers a spectacular range of plants and cuttings, mostly grown within its own walls –thanks to the magical fingers of the head of propagation, Jacqui Ruthven, formerly of Sissinghurst Castle.

Visitors can admire the stunning 13 Victorian Glasshouses which include a Melon House, Peach House, Fernery and a three-quarter-span Vinery, all within one of the few Victorian walled kitchen gardens still intact in the UK today.

This magnificent garden was once part of the Tongswood estate, now home to St Ronan’s School, which actually dates back 700 years. The estate’s last private owner was Charles Gunther, who made his fortune as chairman of the OXO company.

Aside from the plants, visitors can enjoy lectures on the garden’s history and there are frequent fairs and exhibitions, and sometimes even open-air theatre.

There ‘s also a shop and the nursery cafe which serves great cake.
