Outdoor theatre and the British summer - especially this summer - will always be a risky pairing, but when it comes to Changeling Theatre, the show must go on.

The company’s production of Shakespeare’s All’s Well That Ends Well at Boughton Monchelsea Place on Saturday was testament to the professionalism and high-quality shows that they have come to be known for.

While the audience reached for umbrellas and raincoats, the cast did not falter and continued even as the weather worsened.

But all really is well that ends well, as the clouds went away and the play ended in sunshine.

Open-air theatre across Kent this summer

We returned for the evening show, Oliver Goldsmith’s She Stoops To Conquer, and fortunately the rain stayed away.

This is my third year watching Changeling and once again the cast were brilliant and by watching both plays you really appreciate how talented and versatile they are as actors, musicians and singers.

The staging is simple yet effective, props minimal but precise, and the costumes elegant.

The traditional script is enhanced with up-to-date jokes and musical interludes such as a hilarious ukulele melody including Hey Jude and Adele’s Hello.

As ever, Changeling has created two breathtaking, hilarious and beautiful productions, and I cannot wait to see what they do with my favourite Shakespeare play, Hamlet, next year.
