The Herne Bay Musical Theatre Society might walk 500 miles, or maybe even 500 more, just to bring the sound of Edinburgh pop duo The Proclaimers to the town.

The group has had previously had to go outside the town to find a big enough venue. But now they are coming back to Herne Bay with a musical called Sunshine on Leith.

It is a timely choice with today’s (Thursday) Scottish referendum, which was the inspiration behind the decision. It will be staged at the Bay Theatre at the High School from October 22 to October 25.

Chairman Nick Bosworth said: “The musical involves everybody from across generations, young and old.

“With Scotland being in the news so much we hope we can make our show really represent the country and show the different experiences of life there.

The musical is based on music by The Proclaimers

“The society used to perform its shows at the Kings Hall but we outgrew it and had to look to Whitstable and Canterbury. This is the first time we are bringing it back to the Bay.”
