Sunsets and the sound of the waves are some of the simple pleasures in life we have all learned to appreciate this year, more than ever.

Their beauty will be brought together with a joint exhibition by two Kentish kindred spirits, who draw on both elements in their work - but in very different ways - and which go on show in Margate this weekend.

Meet Us Where the Sky Touches the Sea is the fifth joint exhibition by wave photographer Ross Andrews and artist Darren Lewis.

Isolation during the pandemic inspired both of them to focus on celebrating the visual, increasing both their output and intensity.

Capturing the waves in full force with his specialist camera equipment while surfing, Ross offers a new view of the sea, sky and the coastline. His work requires patience and timing, with some of his pieces taking more than two years to capture. At this exhibition he will also be showing some of the largest pictures he has ever produced, one of which is more than 2.5m.

Darren works in traditional oils capturing the light, colour and luminosity the local coastlines have to offer. His skies serve as a dramatic backdrop to his chosen locations but the sea also plays an important part in his compositions, including scenes of Margate Harbour.

Their work is on show at the Pie Factory in Broad Street, Margate, from Friday, September 11 to Tuesday, September 22, from 10am to 6pm daily.
