One of the most pioneering and influential performers of modern times, David Bowie’s life and work has always attracted huge public interest.

When a new exhibition about the music legend opened at London’s V&A Museum in March it proved a sell-out, with more than 67,000 advance tickets booked, the highest number of pre-sales in its 150-year history.

But now fans who didn’t manage to bag tickets for David Bowie Is Happening Now have one last chance to see it.

A behind-the-scenes tour of the show will be broadcast in more than 200 cinemas across the country this week before going on international tour.

It will be introduced by exhibition curators Victoria Broackes and Geoffrey Marsh, and will feature special guests offering an insight into the stories behind some of the 300 objects on display from the David Bowie Archive, many of which have never before been displayed in public.

They include 1972 Ziggy Stardust bodysuits designed by Freddie Burretti; album sleeve artwork by Guy Peellaert and Edward Bell; visual excerpts from films and live performances including The Man Who Fell to Earth; music videos such as Boys Keep Swinging and set designs created for the 1974 Diamond Dogs tour.

Martin Roth, director of the V & A, said: “Visitors have gone to great lengths for a chance to see our exhibition so we wanted to give everyone across the country one last opportunity to experience it for themselves.

"This is the first time the V&A has taken part in a live broadcast event of this magnitude and we are extremely excited to be working with such a talented production team to present the phenomenon that is David Bowie to the widest possible audience.”

The event will be screened at all participating cinemas on Tuesday, August 13. Doors will open at 6.45pm with the screening at 7pm.
