Set sail on a voyage of discovery into the world of steam, transport and steampunks this Easter weekend.

The Historic Dockyard Chatham’s hugely popular annual event, the Festival of Steam and Transport, is back on Easter Sunday, April 21, and Easter Monday, April 22.

As part of your ticket, there’s a free funfair with some vintage rides including the Chair O Planes, Dodgems, Ferris Wheel and Carousel.

Besides the usual galleries and historic warships to see, plus the Victorian Ropery, you can enjoy some live music from BBC Radio Kent’s The Kent Sessions, plus classic cars lining the streets and the dockyard’s trains steaming through the festivities.

The steam element isn’t just confined to the transport however, as there’s a Steampunk Village, run with Great Kentspectations.

Steampunks are known for their inventions, gadgets and steam powered – think HG Wells and Jules Verne mixed with Victorians.

In the village you will find all things steampunk from various stalls to tea dunking contests plus the chance to fling cuddly toys from elastic-powered canons!
