The remaining members of reggae band UB40 are hoping fans who can remember the heady days of the mid-1980s will join them on the Kent coast this weekend.

The boys from Birmingham, who sold records by the millions thanks to singles such as Red, Red Wine and Kingston Town, are stopping off in Folkestone this week as part of their biggest UK tour for more than three years.

The band is not to be confused with a rival, led by break-away former vocalist Ali Campbell, which playing at Rochester’s Castle Concerts on Friday, July 18. Lead singer Ali left UB40 in 2008 and formed the Dep Band.

That group announced in January that they were reforming as UB40 to record a new album and go on tour, leaving the two bands in on continuing state of dispute over the rightful ownership of the UB40 name. However, this week’s Folkestone gig is by Robin Campbell’s UB40.

Robin, Ali’s brother, said: “We’re firing on all cylinders and itching to get out on the road.”

The gig at Leas Cliff Hall is on Monday, April 7. Tickets from £32.40. Call 0844 8717615.
