Rail delays between Margate and Faversham after vehicle hits Chestfield and Swalecliffe bridge

Speed restrictions were enforced on railway lines this morning after a vehicle hit a bridge.

There were delays to services between Margate and Faversham as a result of the incident.

Southeastern tweeted that a vehicle had struck a bridge between Chestfield and Swalecliffe, near Whitstable, earlier this morning and teams attended.

Trains on the line near the bridge were subsequently held while checks were being made.

Some services had speed restrictions imposed on them as checks continued.

Network Rail response staff inspected the bridge and trains are now running at their normal speed through the area and services are no longer disrupted.

Southeastern posted on its website that trains running between Margate and Faversham could have been cancelled, delayed or revised due to the incident.

The 9.30am service to London St Pancras from Margate was delayed and all services from London due to arrive at Margate were up to 46 minutes late.

Any train users who were delayed by 15 minutes or more as a result of the incident can claim through Southeastern's delay repay section on its website.
