Whitstable Town youngster Aaron James has been on a successful trial at Charlton Athletic.

The defender only arrived from the youth ranks at Margate in June as one of the Ward brothers’ first signings but has forced his way into the Oystermen’s first team and also represented the Kent Schools FA side this season.

Joint boss Danny Ward said: “He’s 17 years old and we are really pleased for him, he’s a nice lad and he’ll go far.

"He’s done really well for us. They obviously think a lot of him because they had him up four days last week, invited him back for Monday and Tuesday and then asked him to come in on Wednesday.”
