Police have closed one lane of traffic on the A299 coastbound between Faversham and Whitstable after a four car smash.

The accident happened near the Yorkletts petrol station at around 12.30pm. It follows an earlier accident this morning on the M2 between Sittingbourne and Faversham.

Eyewitness William Dean was travelling in the opposite direction. On twitter he said: “There were four cars, one of them was a Land Rover I think. I think they had bumped bonnets. Nothing too serious but police have closed one lane.”

The teen was arrested yesterday.

Motorists have faced traffic misery because the Highways Agency have begun major roadworks on the A2 from Faversham to Canterbury in both directions.

Diversions are in place which send larger vehicles along the A299 to Thanet and past Sandwich to reach Dover.
