A Co-op store in Ashford will shut for almost a month to allow for refurbishment.

The shop in Faversham Road, Kennington, is to close on Friday, July 23 as it is upgraded on the outside and inside.

How the refreshed Co-op could look

Bosses at the grocery chain have gained planning permission from Ashford Borough Council to install an Amazon self-service locker at the front of their shop.

It is part of a number of changes planned for the site – which include putting sleeping policemen in the parking bays and painting the shopfront grey.

Store managers also want to cut down part of the hedgerow at the side of the car park and extend the pavement at the junction with Tudor Road.

On top of this, the chain is to upgrade the branding on the building in line with the company’s current style, replacing the current green sign reading ‘The Co-operative food’ with a simplistic ‘Co-op’ logo.

The illuminated logo will be joined with an additional one hanging off the side of the building.

The inside of the shop will also be reworked and made more accessible.

The overhaul will see the store shut from 10pm on Friday, July 23, and reopen at 7am on Thursday, August 19.

The Amazon locker will provide customers using the online retailer with an alternative delivery option.

Once their package is ready to be picked up, customers will receive an email featuring a barcode that they will be able to scan at the locker.

Some restrictions apply – including the item’s size and weight – and shoppers will have three days to pick up their parcel.
