Accident on M20 between Junction 9 for Ashford and Junction 8 at Leeds Castle results in miles of queues

An accident on the London-bound M20 between Ashford and Maidstone resulted in seven miles of queuing traffic.

Vehicles were stopped for about 15 minutes at about 1pm while the vehicles involved were cleared from the middle and outside lanes.

The result was a huge queue, with delays of more than half an hour for drivers caught up in the tailbacks.

All lanes were reopened by about 1.30pm.

Police have been contacted for more details.

Meanwhile, a lane was shut off between the same two junctions in the opposite direction after a car broke down.
