Thousands of residents in Kennington were left without power this morning after a fire at a substation.

The facility in Nine Acres, opposite Bybrook Cemetery, went up in flames just after 7am when crews were called to the scene.

Fire crews used dry powder to extinguish the small blaze

One fire engine attended and crews used dry powder to extinguish the small blaze, which they say started accidentally.

Firefighters left just before 8am and passed the duty of care over to UK Power Networks.

Residents across Bybrook and Bockhanger reported power outages, some lasting an hour.
