Yobs have been spotted throwing loaded bottles of water from the top of a trouble-hit multi-storey car park.

Council bosses say security has been beefed up after two young men were seen hurling the objects from Edinburgh Road car park in Ashford town centre.

The council-owned Edinburgh Road car park was closed off for security reasons during the first lockdown

No one has been hurt but the vandals have caused "significant damage" to a roof in the area, sparking a warning to those walking nearby.

In a statement, Ashford Borough Council said: "We've been alerted to the fact that there has been some very dangerous behaviour in Edinburgh Road car park over the last few days.

"We are actively monitoring the situation, working with the police and extra security has been deployed to the area to try and prevent further incidents.

"Please be alert to this, and report any suspicious activity in the area directly to the police as soon as you see it."

Last month, three catapults were taken from a group of Sevenoaks-based youths after they used them to fire objects from the car park.

During the first lockdown, the council was forced to close the facility for security reasons after cones, bricks and even a bike were launched from the roof of the seven-storey facility.

And in 2019, the stairwell was described as a "drugs den" but the council said extra security measures would not be installed due to the likelihood of CCTV systems being vandalised.
