Residents were angry after youths chucked bricks, cones and even a bike from the top of the facility.

The culprits allegedly caused disruption at least four times a week, prompting police call outs and extra patrols in the area.

However the council has now confirmed the site has been shut for an indefinite period.

A spokesman said: "The Edinburgh Road car park has been closed for security reasons."

One of the nearby residents who experienced the youths' actions has already noted a difference.

Ollie Hilton, said: "I’ve heard nothing since so it’s definitely made a change - I had a peaceful sleep."

The council's move comes despite police promising extra patrols in the area following the disturbances.
