A popular lake has reopened after closing to the public due to concerns about the water quality.

Danson Lake in Danson Park, Bexleyheath, was closed over the weekend after its weekly water testing results came back showing results “outside of normal operating parameters”.

The body of water is often used for activities such as sailing, kayaking and fishing.

The tests, which are to ensure the water is within bathing water guidelines and to identify any risks to wildlife, are also for a range of bacteria such as E-Coli.

A spokesman for Bexley Council, which manages the park and lake, said: “The council takes controlled water samples of Danson Lake on a weekly basis throughout the year to ensure the activities can operate in a safe environment and within bathing water guidelines and that any risks to wildlife are identified.

“The samples are tested for a range of bacteria, which includes E – Coli, to identify any increases in levels.

“While the lake is not required to conform to the bathing water guidelines, the council has adopted these practices to support the management of the health and safety of the lake.

“Water testing results received last week were outside of our normal operating perimeters for water-based activities.

“The lake was closed as a precaution while further tests and inspections were carried out.

“The latest tests results have now been received and the lake is now fully open.”

Danson Park Adventures, which runs a variety of water and land activities and hires out rowing boats and Pedalos, tweeted on Saturday its row boats hire was closed due to the weather.

In February, the lake was closed off to all “water-based activities” due to a pipe leaking “discharge” in the water.

Thames Water attended and found a blocked sewer which had caused the leak.
