Parliamentary candidates are set to be grilled live on Facebook prior to the general election next month.

Those vying for the Canterbury and Whitstable seat will answer appear individually as they answer questions submitted by residents.

Hosted on the Canterbury Residents Group, the interviews will be broadcast on weekday evenings a fortnight before December 12.

The ever-expanding Facebook group has more than 35,000 members.

It's founder, Edd Withers said: "I can’t wait to meet the candidates and press them for answers to the issues of every day residents of Canterbury.

"This isn’t a hustings full of politically aware people, but a selection of questions from average residents who want to get to know their local candidates better.”

“Using Facebook Live broadcast in this way is exciting and opens up opportunities for expanding the election process to those that would normally be disenfranchised."

Each interview will last 45 minutes.

So far, three of the five parties set to contest the super-marginal seat have confirmed they will be taking part.

Rosie Duffield, Labour, is set to face a difficult task to reclaim her position as MP.

The Lib Dems are standing Tim Walker as a candidate, while Anna Firth is the new face of Canterbury's Conservative campaign.

Henry Stanton is back standing for the Greens, while Owen Prew will represent the Brexit Party.

The interview dates will be announced in the coming weeks.
