Police called to fight in St Peter’s Street, Canterbury, as pubs reopen after lockdown

Police were called to deal with a city centre fight on the first evening of pubs reopening.

Officers descended on St Peter’s Street in Canterbury at around 8.15pm yesterday after reports of an altercation involving multiple people.

There were no serious injuries as a result of the incident, and police say no one came forward to report any offences being committed against them.

A police spokesman said: "Enquiries into the incident are ongoing including a review of CCTV footage."

Pubs across the county opened their doors to drinkers yesterday after months of closure amid the coronavirus pandemic.

A drunken reveller had to be pulled from a river not once but twice after he jumped in last night.

Rescue teams described his actions as "sheer stupidity" after they tried to help the man who had shouted "help me, I can't swim" before fleeing from the scene in Maidstone.
