In a post published on Twitter, Kent Police Canterbury said: "Male located and after a foot pursuit with one of our athletic officers is arrested for a serious offence."

Police have since confirmed the man was arrested on suspicion of sexual assault, in relation to an incident that reportedly took place at an address in Maidstone last Tuesday.

They added: "Enquiries showed the man, who is from the Maidstone area, was wanted on recall to prison.

"He was therefore returned to prison."
