Arrest after serious assault near Broomfield Park, Swanscombe, which left victim with head injuries

A man has been arrested after an assault near a town park which left the victim with head injuries.

Officers were called to the incident in Orchard Road, near Broomfield Park, Swanscombe, at 10.21am yesterday.

It is alleged the victim was sitting inside a car when the vehicle was damaged with a hammer and he was assaulted.

He was taken to local hospital for treatment for a head injury and has since been discharged.

In the early hours of this morning, a 21-year-old man from Swanscombe, who is known to the victim, was arrested in connection with the incident and taken into custody.

The incident is being treated as isolated, and officers remain in the area to reassure the community and continue making enquiries.

Up to 10 police cars were spotted in the area close to the children's playground.

Forensics teams were seen taking photographs and gathering evidence from a dark red car with smashed windows.

Update: The arrested man has been released on bail pending further inquires.
