The chief constable’s crime squad carried out an investigation into the burglaries, in which car keys as well as vehicles, wallets and handbags were reported stolen.

Mr Knight was yesterday charged with conspiring to commit burglary.

He has been remanded in custody and is due to appear at Medway Magistrates’ Court tomorrow.
