Motorists faced delays after a crash closed the M25 in both directions.

The accident happened earlier this afternoon between junctions 28 for the A12 and Junction 29 for the A127 in Essex.

Tailbacks stretched back to the Dartford Tunnel and the approach road leading to the crossing.

Motorists heading towards the Dartford Crossing should expect delays

The anti-clockwise carriageway was closed for an air ambulance to land after the crash.

All lanes have been reopened following the crash - and the delays in Kent have cleared.

The air ambulance landed near the crash site but it is not known at this stage if anyone is seriously injured.

Tailbacks at the Dartford Crossing

Diverted traffic stuck in Essex should exit the M25 at Junction 28 and take the fourth exit at the roundabout on 20 the A12 towards London.

Motorists should then follow to Gallows Corner and take the first exit on to the A127 towards Southend.

They can then take the M25 exit slip and then take the third exit at the roundabout to rejoin at the M25 towards Dartford Crossing.

The diversion route is signposted by the hollow triangle symbol.
